The Story Behind Johnny Franchise and My Passion for Franchising

As December rolls in, I find it’s the perfect time for reflection and gratitude. This year, I’ve realized that while many people know of me, they may not know the whole story—who I am, where I come from, and most importantly, why I do what I do. So, I’d like to share a little more about myself and my passion for franchising.

I’m John Francis, but most people know me as Johnny Franchise. It’s a nickname that reflects my lifelong connection to the franchise industry. My story starts back in the 1960s when my parents launched a hair salon franchise system. As the youngest of five, I grew up immersed in the world of franchising—so much so that I thought everyone lived this way.

My early years were spent working in our family’s salon franchisor business, where I wore just about every hat possible. From operations, training, finance, and marketing to mergers, acquisitions, and international expansion—I lived and breathed franchising. I even became a franchisee, running multiple units across different states. It was a fast-paced, chaotic, and invaluable learning experience that shaped my understanding of every corner of the franchise world.

 


Why Do I Do What I Do?

But after years of hands-on experience, I realized my passion wasn’t in running the day-to-day operations. Instead, I found my calling in helping others navigate the complexities of franchising.

Now, I use my experience, knowledge, and network to guide franchisors to get it right—to build strong systems, empower their franchisees, and achieve the growth they’re striving for. What drives me? Seeing the impact that success creates.

I’ve had the privilege of working with some incredible franchise brands over the years. Each story is unique, but they share a common thread: a commitment to franchisee success. Here are just a few examples:

  1. Office Pride: Building a Culture of Success
    Office Pride, a faith-based commercial cleaning franchise, needed to strengthen leadership and franchisee performance. By focusing on core values and leadership development, we drove growth—franchisees saw better results, engagement improved, and the team thrived with a shared purpose.
  2. Just Between Friends: Scaling with Confidence
    At a key turning point, Just Between Friends, a children’s consignment franchise, needed a strategy to scale while staying true to their values. By implementing an advisory board and coaching the leadership team, we built a foundation for sustainable growth. Today, they’ve achieved a successful transaction and continue to thrive.
  3. Sport Clips: Elevating Franchisee Performance
    Sport Clips aimed to enhance multi-unit ownership across their system. Partnering with their leadership team, I helped design coaching and training programs to empower franchisees. The result? Franchisees grew their confidence, expanded ownership, and drove system-wide performance.
